We aren't completely clueless. Colorado is one of the premiere states to legalize retail marijuana for the general public, and we understand some people may choose to partake while visiting. If so, we would rather you do so safely and responsibly.

On a more practical note, we complied a description of pertinent Colorado laws and regulations you should be aware of, should you decide to enjoy one of Colorado's youngest retail markets. Please know your rights and responsibilities beforehand.

Need to Know Facts: Legislature
- Adults 21 and older with a Colorado or out-of-state ID can purchase up to a quarter-ounce at a time and possess up to one (1) ounce.
- It's a felony to give or share retail marijuana with someone younger than 21 years old.
- Licensed retail locations are the only legal place to purchase marijuana, which means that it’s also illegal for you to re-sell marijuana you’ve purchased.
- It's illegal to leave Colorado with any marijuana products. Additionally, Denver International Airport has banned the possession of marijuana products on its property. Yes, they can do that.
- Dispose of leftover marijuana using a secured container and in a safe place that’s out of sight and out of reach of children, like in a large dumpster. Don’t leave your extras in hotel rooms or rental cars—it’s dangerous, it could fall into the hands of minors, and you could even be charged a fee for doing so.
- Public marijuana use (in ANY form) is not legal anywhere in Colorado, so you’ll need to find a private residence or hotel/rental that allows it.
- Hotel owners can ban the use and possession of marijuana on their properties, so you may not be able to use in a hotel room. You may contact our hotel at your leisure to inquire about their policies.
- Marijuana remains illegal under Federal law. If you’re on federal land, such as a national park or a national forest, you can’t even have it in your possession.
- It’s illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. In addition to endangering the lives of others, if you get caught, you could be charged with a DUI.
- If you have marijuana in your car, make sure it’s sealed and unused. It’s illegal to open and/or use any marijuana in a vehicle. That goes for both the passenger and the driver.
Need to Know Facts: Safety
- As a rule of thumb, if you’re smoking, wait at least six hours before driving. If you’re ingesting, wait at least eight.
- There is no known safe amount of marijuana use while pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Be aware of any health conditions you have that may be impacted by marijuana use, including respiratory and mental health conditions.
- After consuming edible products, it’s a good idea to wait at least four hours before consuming more. The standard serving size is 10 mg of THC.
- Using alcohol and marijuana at the same time is likely to result in greater impairment than when using either one alone. Using simultaneously is not recommended and should be approached with caution.
- Also, be aware of the effect marijuana can have on prescription drugs. Ask your doctor if marijuana could interfere with your prescribed medication.
- Marijuana smoke contains many of the same chemicals as tobacco smoke, so be mindful of those around you who don’t want to be exposed, especially children and pregnant women.
- Marijuana affects everybody differently, and varying doses, strains and forms can lead to different lengths and strengths of impairment. If you are unsure how marijuana will affect you, start with a low dose.
- Dabbing uses highly concentrated THC and should only be used by those who have used marijuana in the past.
- The symptoms of using too much marijuana are similar to the typical effects of using marijuana, but more severe. These symptoms may include: extreme confusion, anxiety, paranoia, panic, fast heart rate, delusions or hallucinations, increased blood pressure and severe nausea/vomiting. If someone is having trouble breathing, has pale skin, or is unresponsive, call 911.
